During the Seven Years War, Britain seized Havana and Manila from the Spanish. When the Treaty of Paris ended the war in 1763, the British took possession of Florida in exchange for returning Havana and Manila to Spain. However, their ownership lasted only 20 years during which the American Revolution removed the thireen colonies from British rule. Florida was returned to Spain in 1783 by the same treaty.
